Saint Philomena the Wonder Worker
Since the 1920’s a Shrine to Saint Philomena
the Wonderworker has been in existence in Scotland at the Carfin
Lourdes Grotto near Motherwell. This Shrine is now known as the
UK National Shrine to Saint Philomena. This is the only Shrine
to St Philomena in existence within the United Kingdom. It is a
very beautiful, special place of peace to visit. As you sit
within the Glass Chapel which is dedicated to the exposition of
the Most Blessed Sacrament and look to the right, St Philomena's
Shrine can be clearly seen.
We are the Saint Philomena Devotional Centre who run this centre
for Scotland and co-ordinate the devotion within the United
Kingdom and Ireland. We represent the Universal
Archconfraternity of Saint Philomena which is run direct from
the Sanctuary of Saint Philomena, Mugnano del Cardinale,
Avellino, Italy. This is the only organization offering
Christians around the world a recognized and coherent structure
to share fellowship and devotion to Saint Philomena. There are
other organizations that profess to do this but only one is
recognized by the Church and supported by the Sanctuary in
Italy.
Saint Philomena is a Wonderful and Powerful Saint. There is
nothing too small or too great to ask for her intercession. Her
patronage covers many things and the list of prayers answered
being sent into the Sanctuary in Italy in recent years include
all modern day life aspects. You can read of many of them in the
“Messenger of Saint Philomena”, the quarterly magazine which
comes direct from the Sanctuary. You are also invited to view
the Sanctuary’s web page on
http://www.philomena.it/ and subscribe free to the
e-newsletter of the Sanctuary of Saint Philomena in Italy. Let
us pray to this little Saint who is so powerful with God - if we
pray from our heart she will take our request to God through Our
Lady, there is no doubt of that.
